Saturday October 16, 2010: RED HOT CANDY HEART CD RELEASE SHOW in Calgary
This event was very special for many reasons. The Crew was thrilled to launch RED HOT CANDY HEART, Jacquie’s second disk, to a sold-out crowd at the Barn in Shawnessy – where we self-hosted for the first time (meaning we rented the hall, got all the refreshments, and sold all the tickets ourselves)! We also performed a brand-new song, “Savannah’s Song” for the first time – and the woman for whom Jacquie wrote the song (she won the song at the Haiti Benefit Show at Club Paradiso) was in the audience with her family, which was wonderful! Another first was launching a bunch of cool new merchandise, including t-shirts, and nifty personalized guitar picks made into various useful items…which we’ll have available for all our upcoming shows.
Thursday August 12, 2010: “Taste of Calgary” Festival in downtown Calgary
Jacquie Drew and the Crew performed on the Taste of Calgary Main Stage at Eau Claire Festival Plaza on opening night, set up at the Corner of 2nd Ave and 2nd St. S.W. Calgary, in front of the Eau Claire YMCA. The event has been going for 14 years, and it your one best opportunity to sample from all the Calgary’s greatest restaurants!
July 9 – 18, 2010: CALGARY STAMPEDE: Two shows daily at the Frontier Pavilion
Jacquie performed as a duo with Allen Christie (first two days) and Lawrence Ball (remainder of week) during the Calgary Stampede in the Frontier Pavilion. It was a great chance to spread our music to lots of new people, as the Frontier Pavilion is reserved by various companies/organizations for their annual Stampede celebrations.
Thursday, July 8th, 2010: at “FIRST FLIP” Stampede Breakfast
Jacquie Drew and the Crew kicked off Stampede with a big public Stampede breakfast called “FIRST FLIP” put on by Tourism Calgary, the Downtown Association, the Calgary Telus Convention Centre, Calgary Arts Development and Calgary Economic Development, with about 5000 people in attendance. Yahoooo!!!
Saturday, June 19, 2010: at “Lake Bonavista Recreation Centre” in Calgary
Jacquie Drew & the Crew performed at Lake Bonavista’s annual pre-Stampede breakfast. With a free breakfast put on by the Calgary Stampede Caravan committee, and a classic car Show and Shine – hundreds of people showed up for a great breakfast, live music, and numerous activities for the kids. It was also a bonus for us – as Shane Chisholm guested in on the bass/vocals for us…. and of course he rocked!! The event planners already asked us back for next year. Much thanks to Amanda and the LBCA for having us!
Wednesday, May 12 2010: “Private Function” at Lazy S Saloon, Stampede Grounds
Jacquie Drew and Allen Christie performed as a duo at the Stampede Grounds for a special lunch event held for local event planners. This already resulted in offers for two other Stampede shows for 2010.
Monday, May 10th “Private Function” at Hyatt Hotel in Calgary
Jacquie Drew & the Crew performed for the Association of University Administrators (CAURA) at the Hyatt Hotel, and had the dance floor full all night! What a fun group of people – many of whom were east-coasters – so of course they definitely appreciate a good party with live music!
Wednesday, April 14th, 2010: at “The Ranchman’s” in Calgary
The band performed at the legendary Ranchman’s for the 2010 Calgary Stampede Kickoff Party. It was also a return for Peter Boyce on electric lead guitar – who packed some serious punch on stage!
Thursday, January 28, 2010: Delta Hotel in downtown Calgary
Jacquie Drew performs regularly on the grand piano in the Elements bar located in the hotel lobby, giving a warm comfort to weary travellers and downtown oil-types. It’s a great chance to really hear Jacquie’s voice, clean and pure with only self-accompaniment.
Thursday, January 28, 2010: Haiti Benefit Variety Show
Jacquie Drew joined Club Paradiso’s other eclectic acts for a night of music, comedy, great food, an auction and who knows what else? Club Paradiso is in Inglewood, at 1413 9 Ave SE – over the Village Cantina. She also auctioned off a custom-written song, with proceeds going to the Haiti Relief Fund. Congratulations to Pat Gavreau who won the bid!
Friday & Saturday January 22 & 23, 2010: at “Early Stage Saloon” in Stony Plain, AB
Tore up the house at the Early Stage Saloon – an original roots music room in beautiful Stony Plain. Owners John and Carmen are fantastic people – we’ll be back for sure.
Friday, December 11, 2009: at the “National Finals Rodeo” in Las Vegas, Nevada
Jacquie Drew teamed up with Allen Christie’s Great Cowgrass Band to perform at the Canadian team’s party in Las Vegas! Allen goes down annually for the event – which is the big party for the Canadian Team. Can you say “no sleep for 3 days”?? Yahooo!
Friday, December 4, 2009: “Rawlco Radio 97.7 Christmas Party” at Ironwood Stage, Calgary
Jacquie was honoured to perform solo on vocals/ guitar/ piano for Rawlco’s annual Christmas party at Ironwood – and what a party it was! The Rawlco folks put on one of the funnest, most outrageous and wonderful corporate Christmas parties we’ve ever seen…and they obviously put a huge priority on supporting local original music – not just with their grant program, but by actually airing the artists they support. Thank you Rawlco!
Saturday November 28, 2009: Grey Cup Party at the Delta Hotel in downtown Calgary
The Riders fans were there in droves, as the band played on til past 1 – taking pretty much any request thrown at us! Turns out they like to sing along…we event whipped off a version of the Saskatchewan Pirate song. Hey! Hey! Hi! Ho!
Thursday November 19, 2009 “Christmas in Inglewood” in Calgary
The Crew played Inglewood’s annual “Christmas in Inglewood” event to kick off the Christmas shopping season at the beautiful Club Paradiso.
Sunday, July 19, 2009: “Sun & Salsa Festival” in Calgary
The band performed at Kensington’s big Sun & Salsa festival this year, on the Main Stage 2. There’s a cool video on this website of the performance for you to enjoy!
Sunday, June 21, 2009: at “Sounds of Summer” Festival in Calgary
Jacquie performed, acoustically on guitar/vocals during Inglewood’s new mini summer festival. The festival featured a wide variety of acts performing at street level up and down the main drag in Inglewood – 9 Avenue SE.
Feb 26 through Mar 1, 2009: ECMA Discovery Stage in Corner Brook NL
Jacquie had the honour and pleasure of performing during the East Coast Music Awards week in Corner Brook Newfoundland…what a hoot! Performed 3 times on the Discovery Stage there, along with numerous open-mics, radio/TV interviews, and all-nighters jamming with some of Canada’s best singer/songwriters. This was certainly one of the best musical adventures of my life! Made some incredible connections too!
Saturday, Jan 10, 2009: Ironwood Stage in Calgary
Played to a sold-out room at Ironwood in a cold Saturday in January – what a fantastic show. Tim Leacock, Kit Johnson, and Pat Phillips were unbelievably great, and we had the room up dancing all night. There are some great videos of the show posted on this website in the Photos and Videos section.
Saturday, Aug 23, 2008 CD RELEASE SHOW “Mikey’s Juke Joint” in Calgary
The second of our two Calgary CD Release Shows for our debut disk, this show featured a 4-piece band that included Peter Marley, Danny Patton, Kenton MacDonald, and Graham (Willie) Ross. Jacquie performed on vocals/rhythm guitar, and the band was especially tight – Kenton even nailed the tempo changes in One More Time! This was the first time we performed with Graham on pedal steel, and he treated us to a couple of his classic Willie Nelson covers as well! The room was packed, and the crowd response was excellent.
Saturday, Aug 16, 2008 CD RELEASE at “Ironwood Stage and Grill” in Calgary
This was an amazing show, and we managed to pack the Ironwood on a Saturday night on their slowest month of the year! This was largely due to excellent support from CBC and CKUA for playing my songs, the Calgary Herald (thanks to writer Mary-Lynn Wardle) for their feature story that ran the day of the show, and to my poster boy hubby who spread the word everywhere. It was also excellent to have pretty well the whole band from the Rolling Wind CD – including Ron Casat (keyboards) and Charlie Veilleux (pedal steel). Rounding out the band was Peter Marley (lead guitar), Garry Gelhorn (drums) and Stefano Valdo (upright bass).
Friday, August 8, 2008 at “San Carlos Caffee” in Okotoks, AB
This was a cozy show in a beautiful live music Cafe in Okotoks. We performed as a trio with myself, Peter Marley, and Stefano. It was the first show I’d played with Stefano, and he was excellent! San Carlos was evidently very happy – the owner, Aaron Brown said he loved the CD and had been anticipating the show for weeks! Another staff member said it was the best show they’d had in the whole year she’d worked at San Carlos.
Friday and Saturday, July 4 & 5, 2008 at “Auditorium Hotel” in Nanton, AB
These were our first shows of Stampede, and we played out in the old-west town of Nanton, AB! On stage with me were Gord Bregg (electric bass – and my old friend from the Men of Constant Sorrow), Ron Lukiv (lead guitar) and Kenton MacDonald (drums). This was the first time Jacquie played with these fellows as a group – but they’d performed many times together supporting Don Uzwak of Blueswak, so they made a very tight band.
Thursday, July 17 2008 at “Sessions Cafe” in Rothesay, NB
This was the first maritime show Jacquie played, and it gave her the chance to perform for her mother and two sisters, who’d never seen the show before, along with many more friends and family members. Steve Zaat, a Saint John based singer/songwriter/guitar player performed on lead guitar as well. He also treated us to a couple of his songs, including “Joy and Pain” which Jacquie had just learned that day, and performed with him on harmony vocals. Jacquie also took the opportunity to sing two songs written by her mother – which went over fantastically well – and made her mother beam!!
Saturday, June 27th, 2008 at “Carlson’s on Macleod” in High River, AB
A fantastic show at a beautiful live music room in High River. Despite being the long weekend, and out of town, the room was nearly full thanks to many supportive friends, fans and family! Jacquie performed on both rhythm guitar and keyboard and was accompanied by Danny Patton on bass, and Peter Marley on lead guitar. The owners of the cafe, Don and Brenda Carlson, were wonderful hosts, and the sound in the room was spot-on. They even presented Jacquie with a lovely bouquet – wow!
